Why Am I Doing This

I thought it would make sense to have my first blog be about why I decided to make my own website and why I’m going to (try to) start writing about topics on here every week. How this started was that I was reading the book The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco, and MJ was talking about his personal experience of creating his own website and how helpful it was for him. That motivated me to start to look into creating my own website. As I was searching the web for information, I stumbled upon a youtuber named Ali Abdaal who has tutorials on how to make a website as well as other entrepreneurial tips. There was one particular video called How Writing Online Made me a Millionaire, and this video inspired me to take his advice and start writing online (Great video by the way, check it out). The reasons why I decided to create my own website are as follows:

Documentation:

Ali talks about how he uses his website to document everything that is happening to him as well as everything that he is learning. One great thing about documentation is that you can revisit and reflect in the future, which is always nice. But another great thing is that other people might find whatever you are writing about interesting or helpful. I’m going to be using this website as a log for everything that I am learning as well as reviews about any books, videos, or ideas that I found helpful and insightful.

Increase Opportunities:

When you put yourself and your ideas out there, opportunities will eventually start to open up to you. You’ll find people who are like-minded and want to work with you or share ideas with you, and this opens up opportunities to work with other people and expand your social network. The more people you know, the more resources and opportunities available to you.

Sorting Out Ideas:

Another reason why I started this website, more specifically why I am writing on my website, is because writing is an excellent tool for sorting out your own thoughts and ideas. For anyone who does not know Jordan Peterson, one of his biggest philosophies for becoming the most valuable and capable person you can be is to become articulate, and there is no better way to articulate your ideas then to talk or write about them. Writing your ideas forces you to take the vague thoughts in your brain and turn them into something more precise that is easier to reference and execute. Since we use words to exchange ideas with other people, it is very beneficial to have those ideas already thought out.

Building Up Your Professional Identity:

A personal website can be an excellent tool for showcasing my ideas, understanding who I am, and why you would want to work with me. It can almost act as a CV or resume to showcase what I have to offer as well as what I am currently up to. My contact information as well as my socials will be available for anyone interested in talking to me more.

Fear of Putting Myself Out There:

The ability to put myself and my ideas out into the world is very important for a successful career and is an integral part of becoming entrepreneurial.

I am a bit afraid of putting my ideas out onto the internet like this. I’ve been off social media for quite awhile (because I think it is generally not good, maybe a future article!), and it has been very easy not having to worry about putting myself out there or worried about what other people think about what I am posting. I wouldn’t say that I am an anti-social person at all, because in the real world I feel pretty comfortable meeting and talking with new people. But these first steps of putting yourself out there onto the internet can be scary. Scared that people will judge my work, ideas, or who I am is the biggest barrier for me with starting this website. But, it is very important to face fears head on. Facing fears is integral for growth as an individual. Always striving to live outside of your comfort zone. It’s what it takes to live a great life. And most of the time, your fears are overexaggerated and ridiculous. Once you face them head on, you realize how ridiculous they really were, and are able to face bigger fears and challenges in the future.

Conclusion:

Hopefully now, you have some idea as to why I am doing this. Maybe something I said struck a cord in you and makes you want to create a website yourself, or do that thing that you’ve been wanting to do. Either way, I’m pretty excited that you’ve even made it this far. If you liked what I wrote, there’ll be more where that came from in the future. And if you didn’t, then thanks for giving me a chance.

Thank you for reading along, I truly appreciate it.
